Your LinkedIn network is the most important tool in the evolution of your career. Use our network on LinkedIn with over 37 million professionals and you’ll find world of opportunities.

Get Started with Step 1

What is LinkedIn? LinkedIn helps you exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with your trusted contacts.

Step 1: Present Yourself

  • Share your credentials. Your LinkedIn profile is the definitive resource on your career. Update your profile to show your academic accomplishments, career highlights, personal passions, and more. Communicate how your graduate degree builds on your professional expertise.
  • Did you know? LinkedIn profiles are often one of the first results in Google search. Make this work for you – fill out your profile so employers, classmates and former colleagues find you at your best.

Step 2: Get Connected

  • You've already got a network. Part of the price of grad school is access to the club – join your school’s LinkedIn Group and engage with your peers. Reconnect with classmates and professors to maximize your network. Reach out to fellow alums in your field to find new opportunities or an inside connection where you’re applying for a job.
  • Tap the family. Family connections are strong in the professional world. Don’t forget to send invites to extended family, family friends, and family of your friends. Let them know about your new degree and the opportunities you’re looking for. These can bring the trusted recommendations that land jobs.
  • Did you know? You're already in. Upload your addressbook to LinkedIn. In seconds you can connect to everyone from your classmates to former colleagues.

Find people you already know »

Why should I connect? Having that extra degree alone won’t land you a job. But a network of people who can recommend you is invaluable when looking for that next opportunity.

Step 3: Come Recommended

  • Represent your professional rep. LinkedIn recommendations look really, really good to employers. Recommendations from peers and colleagues show a continuity of good work at every step of your career, promising more with every new job and promotion.
  • Mix it up a little. Ask former employers, professors, colleagues. How about your internship director? Even business partners at other companies have appreciated working with you – ask them for a recommendation.
  • Did you know? If you have a recommendation it will help your profile show up first in search results.

Get recommended »

How do recommendations help? Everyone looking for a job has a résumé. But résumés don't include firsthand feedback from years of colleagues. Recommendations help you stand out from the crowd, giving employers an impression of who you are in the workplace.

Read recommendations of current LinkedIn members to see its value.

“Gayleen took her extensive and impressive consulting background and in a very short time took direct responsible for the growing Novell's alliances program. She is a master at managing up the organization while providing clear direction across her very senior team. She is always looking for improvements and is open to new ideas. She did a great job at balancing her time between internal requirements and interfacing directly with our largest Systems Integrators.” March 14, 2008

“Adam's leadership in the launch of eBay Express was truly fantastic. He was literally the heart and soul of the project -- simultaneously managing a dozen product managers, hundreds of engineers, and several executives in launching eBay's largest single product effort to date. The fact that despite a large team, the resulting product was a highly consistent, innovative, and customer focused offering is truly a testament to Adam's skill as both leader and product manager. Highly recommended for any role where product leadership is needed.”June 29, 2008
